The thermal envelope requirements of New Zealand homes remain significantly lower than international standards and there is ongoing discussion on the need to raise R-values.
Increasingly government agencies and housing companies are pursuing Homestar 6 and greater to create new homes with thermal ratings above the minimum building code and MBIE is currently consulting on the degree to which minimum R Values in the building code are raised.
