Underfloor Insulation Benefits

Heat loss through an uninsulated floor is estimated at 12-14% so if there's sufficient crawl space under the floor, adding insulation is relatively easy and a cost effective way to create a warmer, healthier home.

Mammoth® underfloor insulation products are easy to handle and install. Mammoth does not deteriorate, is moisture resistant and unlike polystyrene insulation, won't affect electrical wiring.

Mammoth products contain recycled polyester fibres. Mammoth underfloor insulation products use up to 7,800 recycled PET plastic bottles per 100sqm. (Calculations are based on 500ml PET Bottles (16.2g).

Mammoth has three types of underfloor insulation available in a range of widths to suit the home or building:

Self-supporting underfloor sections - medium density insulation sections that need no staples or straps. Perfect for easy DIY installation.
Underfloor blanket - a stapled in insulation blanket that is a cost-effective option. Recommended for use by experienced builders or insulation installers.
Carpark panel - used for when there are occupied rooms directly above a carpark to reduce thermal heat loss.

What are the new Building Code changes?

The NZ Building code has recently changed to:

replace the existing climate zones from 3 to 6 so new homes can be better designed and built based on the climate they're in, and
increase the minimum R-value of ceiling, underfloor and wall insulation.

What does this mean for Underfloor Insulation?

Underfloor insulation will have different R-values across the country with the minimum required increasing from R1.3 to up to R1.7 for slab-on-ground and up to R3.0 for timber sub floors. Read more about the Building Code changes here.
